NDDC COMMENCES ICT TRAINING FOR
TEACHERS ON THE NIGER DELTA
Recently, the Niger
Delta Development Commission(NDDC) commenced the training of 150 secondary
school teachers on Information Communication Technology, its sole purpose is to
equip them with knowledge on ICT.
NDDC’s Head of Corporate Affairs Mr. Ibitoye
Abosede in a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt said that the exercise was
part of the commission’s programme called “educate-the-educators” He also said
that the teachers would get free laptop computers each. They are doing this to boost
ICT knowledge among teachers in all the states that the commission belongs to. He
said the commission recently concluded the training of 5, 000 teachers in various
science subjects, and that 810 tertiary graduates had also benefited from its
scholarship scheme for youths in the region.
“It has come to the commission’s notice that about 65 per cent of
teachers in the Niger Delta are deficient in ICT, a development that impacts
negatively on our education sector.
“NDDC seeks to reduce this ICT deficiency
through our educate-the educators programme.” Abosede said.
